Mandrake Apothecary is a botanical perfumery specializing in alcohol-based perfumes. We compose our perfumes in biodynamic perfumers' spirits with only natural aromatics. Our inspiration for perfumes runs the gamut from alchemy to forces of nature and mythological elements.

Sara Phillips, the nose behind Mandrake Apothecary, is a self-taught perfumer, with varied backgrounds in subjects such as herbalism, anthropology, dance and ritual, religious studies, alchemy, botany, and creative writing. Sometimes one finds an art form which marries seemingly disparate materials, and perfumery was just that medium for Sara. Sara prefers alcohol as the base for her perfumes, rather than oil, due to the transformative nature of alcohol based-scents. The beauty of using alcohol as a base is that it allows the perfume to evolve and blossom over time with one’s own body chemistry.

	Boadecia Boadecia has top notes of warm coriander, faintly anisic tarragon, and bitter orange spiral into a musky heart of ylang ylang and frangipani; the base is composed of vanilla, styrax, diluted ambrette, ylang concrete, and the sheerest touch of labdanum; this is a frankly warm and feminine perfume that invites one to come closer and linger a bit; Boadecia (also spelled Boudicca) was one of the first femme fatales to make history, you might say. 5 ML bottle.

	Café y Cacao Café y Cacao is hot chocolate with a kick of coffee and cinnamon, a thick and rich atole. Warm sweet comfort, with the dark velvet bitterness of Theobroma cacao balancing deep oily coffee, with a touch of liatris and tonka to impart a softness and tenacity. 5 ML bottle.

	Dusk Dusk is cardamom and nutmeg introduce a heart of jasmine grandiflorum which sings out and colors accessory tones of geranium and honey, before diving into a smooth woodsy base of black tea, Himalayan cedarwood and the scantest touch of musty vetiver; the overall character is that of warming oneself on a winter's night, with a lingering musk of jasmine. Dusk is a Posh Peasant favorite. 5 ML bottle.

	Green Tea Green Tea is a contemplative blend has a very special and very rare ingredient in its base accord: several drops of mitti attar; mitti is baked mud from the Ganges which is hydro-diffused into sandalwood essential oil, and given the highly endangered status of sandalwood, this is the only time we have used it - mitti has a very earthen scent profile which grounds the green tea absolute and maté, while bolstering the neroli and boronia at the heart of this creation; there is also a citrus accord in the top with a touch of coriander; fresh, earthy, green, and perky, all at once. 5 ML bottle.

	Hemera Hemera was the primordial deity of the day (where Nyx was the primordial deity of the night), and her parfum is a riot of wildflowers and grassy green fields in the last hot sun of the summer; this composition's heart notes include violet leaf, neroli, petitgrain, acacia farnesiana, and tuberose, which wrap themselves sinuously around a base of ambrette, mimosa concrete, and powdery tonka; verdant and ambrosial. 	Ignis Ignis is the fire present in nature, a deep primordial warmth which fuels the ebb and flow, the blood in our veins, and that languorous intake of breath when one is spent; think golden, think russet, and spiced musk (in the form of ambrette) - this composition evolves through a hive of bees and their fragrant wax, warm skin, golden saffron and henna, dried spices, and blood red citrus. 	Ofrenda Incense is the sweet savor of the Gods, compounded in so many ways. Ofrenda invokes All Saints' (also known as All Hallows) Day, when many around the world visit or remember their dead. Deep balsams, in the form of Mexican copal, three species of frankincense, Somali myrrh, and oppoponax form the base of a meditational blend, which invokes the wildness of the forest with fir needle as well as the sweetness of life with rose petals. And the theme of tonka bean unifies the elements. 5 ML bottle.

	Ouroboros The Ouroboros of alchemy is the self-perpetuating serpent which represents the processes of, and ultimately the wheel of time; it is duality; this balance of a blend is based in deep blue chamomile, the faintly oceanic driftwood of choya, and tall cedars; green herbs float in warm seawater, and there is a hint of sunbaked earth tying this into the base; the top is smooth citrus and cool lavender; this is water, earth, and warmth as it evolves on the skin; a unisex scent, brilliant on both women and men. 5 ML bottle.

	Sophia First and foremost, Sophia is Greek for 'wisdom'. Her story is rife with controversy, especially if you take to heart the version that she was written out of the Old Testament. In gnosticism (which is to say, what has survived as being gnostic philosophy), Sophia was the Divine Feminine to Jesus' Divine Masculine. The elements of the world: fire, air, water and earth emanated from her. Not a dangerous being at all, but one who has been lost to much of the world, it would seem. Essences of the ancient world compose the base: frankincense, myrrh, a touch of spikenard and galbanum. The heart seeks to express the sweetness of knowledge: vanilla, champaca, white lotus and orange flower. 5 ML bottle.

	Terrae Terrae is freshly turned soil, mosses, warm ripe vegetal hues, and growing things; think earthy, the forest floor, yet musky warmth, and deep sweetness - an olfactory trek through the deep woods, replete with the musk of truffles, the resinous sacrament of labdanum, freshly roasted coffee, spicy carrot seed, and the golden yet dusty leaves of patchouli.
