Created by Dominique Ropion for Frederic Malle, Portrait of a Lady is named after the novel by Henry James from 1881. The namesake alone should hint at the nature of the perfume, for it's beautifully classic, full bodied and rich. The perfume concentrates on rose and spices in a new, modern way that varies between the idea of a floriental and a chypre theme with patchouli, natural and intense,
dominating the heart of the composition.
Portrait of a Lady is meant to be a modern, elegant and unusual expression of the Victorian novel's heroine, Isabel Archer, her fate and her quest for freedom. In Ropion's creation, Isabel Archer smells of dark roses, mystical and intense.
notes include Turkish rose,
raspberry, black currant, cinnamon, clove, patchouli, sandalwood,
incense, ambroxan, benzoin and white musk.
