1000 was created for Patou in 1972 by Jean Kerléo. The story goes that it took ten years to
perfect the formula and that “1000” refers to a thousand different submissions
that were rejected before the final, perfect scent was accepted.
1000 combines the notes of bergamot, coriander, eucalyptus,
angelica, osmanthus, rose, jasmine, violet, sandalwood, patchouli, vetiver and
civet in a blend of incomparable smoothness and elegance.
The House of Patou describes 1000 as “the essence of extravagance,” hinting at
the considerable cost of the ingredients and the luxurious feel of the
composition.
This supposed extravagance is of the most refined and
inconspicuous kind. 1000 is rather
elegant and understated.
